The Highland
region originated in 1858 when Denver founder William H.
Larimer, Jr., waded across the Platte River to stake out
high ground on the bluffs northwest of Denver. Today, the
Upper and Lower Highland neighborhoods are experiencing
a resurgence in home values because of their proximity
to downtown Denver. The Central Platte Valley, the South
Platte River and I-25 create a series of buffers between
Downtown and Highland, giving residents in Highland the
advantage of quick accessibility to Downtown.
Housing types
available in Highland are wide-ranging—row
houses, duplexes, apartments above retail shops, grand Victorian
and Queen Anne mansions, and post-WW II era single family
detached houses. The shopping district at 32nd Avenue is
filled with some of Denver’s best restaurants and boutique
shops.
